Training & Research
Training
As well as working as a surgeon, Mr Mutimer is also passionate about training junior orthopaedic surgeons.
Previously, as a lecturer at the Univeristy of Otago, I was responsible for the undergraduate orthopaedic programme and lectured on a weekly basis, as well as teaching clinical skills. He also spent six months at Oxford University, teaching anatomy to medical students, physiotherapists and dental students.
Mr Mutimer now teaches and supervises local orthopaedic registrars performing operations. He is also involved with assessing and interviewing new junior doctors and registrars.
In addition, I am active within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust, training junior doctors, as well as teaching on regional study days on a variety of topics, including trauma, hip fracture management and fracture fixation techniques. He is also an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association’s Patient Liaison Group.
Research
Mr Mutimer has carried out a wide range of published research and focuses on improvements in treating knee and hip conditions, as well as ways to increase the longevity of hip and knee implants.
Recent research topics have included forearm fractures in children, particularly how to reduce the risk of fractures slipping out of position, and effective methods of organising and teaching clinical courses.
